Panasonic LCD Televisions: A cheap alternative series in the LCD Arena

Suddenly e-shops are full with iPod-friendly HDTVs. Well, not that much full but there are two, three competitors for ipod connectivity along with the TV. Check Amazon for the latest models on LED.

I had a look at the Panasonic TC-32LX1; there are two similar models, the 26-inch Panasonic TC-L26X1 and the 37-inch Panasonic TC-L37X1.

The 32 inch model is not as friendly as the JVC LT-P300 but is convenient. There are maybe better models in terms of image quality, but Panasonic is less expensive and has a series on offer with different screen sizes, for every taste.

The set has a shiny black plastic on the frame which is compact with round edges. The speakers are invisible – overall a good style, only the stand does not swivel.

Connectivity is adequate but not extensive, starting with three HDMI inputs: 2 on the back and a 3rd on the side. Other back-panel connections include an analog PC input, a single component-video input, an AV input with composite video, and an RF input for cable or antenna. There’s also an optical digital audio output that can pass audio from an iPod to a home audio system. In addition to the HDMI port and SD card slot, the side panel offers a second AV input with composite and S-Video.

Positive points:

Relatively inexpensive; iPod dock allows charging and playback of music and video; relatively accurate color.

Negative points:

Produced lighter black levels; cannot change aspect ratio with iPod video; won’t display iPod-based digital photos; no analog audio output.
